Permission to Keep What Matters: Why Your Home Should Feel Like You!
For as long as I can remember, I’ve found comfort in the small, familiar things - my grandmother’s green glass candy dish, a hand-painted shell made by my college bestie, the silly dog mug filled with an array of multicolored pens and markers, gifted to me by my eldest daughter. These things may not look like much to someone else, but they carry history. They carry my heart.
Yes, I started my home organizing business to make rooms look tidy, but really, I want to help people reconnect with what matters in their homes and in their lives.
I believe that a well-organized space doesn’t have to be pristine, minimal, or magazine-worthy. It needs to feel like you. It needs to work for your rhythms, your memories, and the life you're living now.
So many of us get caught in the trap of should:
My house should look like the ones on Pinterest.
I should get rid of this old quilt.
I should be more organized, more minimal, more put-together.
But here's the truth: Should is a word that often makes us feel small, inadequate, or like we're doing it wrong. I think it’s time we let should go.
You’re allowed to love the things that don’t match. You’re allowed to keep the box of letters you haven’t read in years. You’re allowed to fill your home with the colors, textures, and objects that feel like home to you, no explanation needed. My job isn’t to judge what you hold onto. My job is to help you make space for what truly supports you, whether that’s decluttering a room to help you breathe easier or finding a place of honor for your childhood teddy bear. I see the beauty in everyday objects. I believe a home tells a story, and yours should be written in your own handwriting, not anyone else's.
So if you’re looking for permission to let your home reflect your real, wonderful, layered self, consider it granted.
I’m here to help you create a space that feels like an exhale. One that welcomes you in and says: You belong here. Just as you are.
Love,
Merrie
